The Alfa Laval Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) is a proven, high-capacity solution for managing excess LNG boil-off gas. Specifically designed to regulate cargo tank pressure on LNG carriers (LNGCs) and floating storage regasification units (FSRUs), it has a simple and reliable design with a long track record at sea. The design is enhanced in the GCU 2.0, which provides higher capacity and an even longer lifetime – within the same dimensions.
The Alfa Laval GCU 2.0 – original simplicity made even smarter
- Proven, reliable solution built on a long track record
- Simple design – a perfect balance between compact and safe
- Extended lifetime thanks to new combustion chamber design and elevated burner
- Worldwide service and support, available 24/7 and remotely
- Connectivity solution enabling access to live data for remote monitoring and support
Alfa Laval solutions are continuously improved, and the trusted Alfa Laval Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) is no exception. Optimized through full-scale testing at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Centre, the GCU 2.0 has an enhanced combustion chamber and burner that increase capacity and lifetime.
The simplicity and easy maintenance are the same in the GCU 2.0, which has a robust design with a limited number of moving parts. Optimized airflow and the elevated burner with electrical igniters create a stable flame in the fully metallic combustion chamber. With design temperatures down to -52°C, the GCU 2.0 is the only solution of its kind for use in Arctic conditions.
The GCU 2.0 is steered through the user-friendly Alfa Laval Touch Control system. Fully equipped for connectivity, it gives you access to remote monitoring and data-based support through Alfa Laval Digital Services .

Digital Services for Gas Combustion Units
Alfa Laval Digital Services for GCUs use smart connectivity to protect daily operation and safety. Based on live and historical data from your GCU, they enable remote support to the crew on board and directly to your head office. The data-supported troubleshooting reduces the need for service visits, while online remote monitoring makes it possible to evaluate GCU performance and secure readiness to operate.
